Session Four: What Happens When We Talk About Mental Health Challenges?
Episode 4

23m
In this session students learn that stigma is a negative view, attitude, or belief about a group of people based on a particular characteristic, such as their mental health. Stigma can stop people who are languishing from seeking the help they need, but we can all help reduce stigma by changing the way we talk about mental health, using person-first language, and having greater self-compassion.
This session features the story of Ava, who lives with depression. The story is not graphic, but it does include references to bullying and suicidal ideation. Students who resonate with Ava’s experience are encouraged to talk to a trusted adult, doctor, or counselor.
