What is a Will?

A will is the basic legal document of estate planning.
A will allows us to designate who we’d like to oversee the distribution of our assets and who should receive those assets after our death. Scripture is clear: all assets and possessions are gifts from God. When we recognize the importance of passing our gifts to others, we allow the gift to become a legacy that blesses future generations, even after we die.
“A will serves as the ‘instruction manual’ for probate.”
A will should be properly drafted by an attorney to clearly and accurately communicate our wishes. It’s an important part of stewardship to plan for beneficiaries and provide for the children, siblings, or spouse God has given us, especially if they’re not able to care for themselves.
