The Second Vatican Council teaches that "the Church is in Christ like a sacrament or as a sign and instrument both of a very closely knit union with God and of the unity of the whole human race" (Lumen Gentium, art. 1). The Church was founded by Christ to be the visible Kingdom of God on earth, and to bring about the unity of all humanity in Christ and through the Holy Spirit. This session will explore the mystery of the Catholic Church and also how the People of God in the Church share in the mission of Christ to continue, in a very real sense, his saving work on earth.
