Nacida en una familia de la nobleza romana, Perpetua se convierte al cristianismo tras presenciar el irresistible ejemplo de servicio y amor imparcial de la Iglesia de Cartago.
Ajena al decreto del Emperador Septimio Severo, mediante el cual se prohíbe toda conversión al cristianismo, Perpetua asiste a una asamblea clandestina de la Iglesia junto con los esclavos Felícitas y Revocato.
Arrestadas y juzgadas, Perpetua y Felícitas junto con sus compañeros se rehúsan valerosa y tajantemente a abjurar de su fe. Su testimonio sigue inspirando a incontables cristianos hasta el día de hoy.
