The body is much more than just a container for the soul. Our bodies are intimately a part of who we are and how God created us. Unfortunately, our culture wants us to think about and create our bodies in its image, instead of God’s. Our children, especially teenagers, are vulnerable to messages that over-emphasize looks and the super-sexualization of the body. John Acquaviva works with teens and young adults, as well as his own children, to give them a balanced, God-centered approach to self-image. In this presentation, he shares the magnitude of the problem, as well as sensible and practical tools that parents can use to help their children develop a proper body image.
John holds a PhD in exercise science and is a professor at Wingate University. His book on the subject is Raising Children with a Healthy Body Image: A Catholic Parents Guide. John is the host of “Faith and Fitness” on Radio Maria.
