In today's gospel, Mary is heading into the temple to present the baby Jesus. She is approached by a stranger, Simeon, who takes Jesus and greatly claims that this is indeed, the Messiah, or the anointed one. The story goes on with Simeon speaking to directly Mary about the implications this will bring. Simeon explains that Mary, too, shall have to bear her own cross. Her son is to be loved as the Anointed One, but he shall also be hated, persecuted, and eventually — killed.

Vocation is not what you do, it is who you are. God has created you not to do things to fulfill your identity but to be in relationship with Him, which then fulfills your identity as a child of God. Does the way you live out (or prepare for) your vocation reflect this?
