Medical Trivia (Answer at 49:43)– Alexis Carrel (1873 –1944) was a French surgeon and biologist who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1912 for pioneering vascular suturing techniques. He invented the first perfusion pump with Charles A. Lindbergh opening the way to organ transplantation. Because of an event he witnessed and refused to deny - he was scorned by his French colleagues and could get no research positions in France. He moved to the United States where he worked in medical research at the Rockefeller Institute from 1906 until his death in 1944. What did he witness in 1902 that he not only refused to deny happened, but willingly proclaimed?
